Cacao, what is it?
Cacao is the raw, least-processed form of the cocoa bean. The bean derives from the Theobroma cacao tree. Theobroma, the Greek name meaning "food of the gods." The cacao tree produces large pods filled with seeds (beans) and pulp. (As shown above) The beans serve as the fundamental ingredient for all chocolate products.
The Process
The difference between cacao and chocolate is the process. Cacao has a bitter taste and is high in nutrient retention. Chocolate is the sweet, finished food product made by combining roasted cacao components (cocoa solids and cocoa butter) with added sugar, milk, and fats.
What makes it magical?
The magic isn’t just in the cute rainbow bubbles, but in the traditions and rituals surrounding this medicine. From the moment the cacao is grown, processed and brewed, the spirit of cacao is awoken. With love and admiration, like prayers and offerings, these blessings are put into your special brew. As we gather in ceremony, set our intentions, and drink the medicine, we begin to feel her (the spirit of cacao’s) loving energy open up our heart space. Letting the magic begin!
